Why is the quantity of shares in my Demat account not matching the quantity in my Portfolio?

The shares displayed in your Demat account and your Portfolio may not match due to the following reasons:

Transactions carried out outside ICICI Direct:

If you have carried out transactions on another platform and transferred those stocks directly into your ICICI Direct Demat Account, it can lead to mismatch in Portfolio and Demat holding

With effect from 27th May, 2026, all off-market transactions undertaken in your linked demat account post this date, will be auto-updated in your Portfolio. In case, the transactions are not auto-updated in your portfolio, then you have to manually update your portfolio.

How to update the off-market transactions manually in your portfolio:

You can add the missing transactions on the Portfolio page using any of the following methods:

    1. Through Advance Options: Go to Portfolio → Click on Advance Options → Select Add New Transaction Manual → Add your transactions.

    2. Through Transaction History: Go to Portfolio → Under the Actions column, click on the edit icon for the stock → Click on Transaction History → Select Add Transaction.

    3. Through File Upload: If you have multiple entries to update, you can upload a file containing the transaction details: Go to Portfolio → Click on Advance Options → Select Upload New Transaction.

    IPO Allotment Outside ICICI Direct:

In case you have received allotment of shares in an IPO that was not applied via ICICI Direct, said holding is not auto-updated and you need to manually update those shares in your Portfolio.

    Corporate Actions:

In case of corporate action like demerger, your Demat holdings will get auto-updated, but the Portfolio might not reflect these changes automatically. This can lead to a mismatch between the two and you may need to add manual entries.
