Tata Power is India’s leading integrated power utility in the Tata Group, present across the full electricity value chain-generation, transmission, distribution, trading, rooftop solar, EV charging and solar manufacturing. As of December 2024, the company’s total generation capacity crossed 15.56 GW, with 6.7 GW from renewables, and it is executing a large pipeline to lift green capacity materially by FY30.

Tata Power operates conventional and hydro assets alongside a fast-growing renewable fleet of utility-scale solar and wind plants. Its distribution businesses span Mumbai, Delhi (through joint-venture Tata Power-DDL), Odisha (four privatized DISCOMs), and Ajmer (distribution franchise). Together, Tata Power DISCOMs serve 12-13 million customers, reflecting one of the largest private footprints in Indian electricity distribution.

Clean-energy pivot and manufacturing

To secure the solar supply chain and support India’s domestic content push, Tata Power commissioned India’s largest single-location, 4.3 GW integrated solar cell and module plant at Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, run by its manufacturing arm TP Solar. The facility makes high-efficiency TOPCon and mono-PERC products and complements the company’s legacy Bengaluru line (modules 682 MW; cells 530 MW). Early production milestones from the Tamil Nadu plant have already crossed the 4 GW module mark.

Nationwide rooftop solar leadership

Tata Power has built one of India’s largest rooftop solar businesses, with more than 1.5 lakh installations and 3 GW of cumulative rooftop capacity across 700+ cities-serving homes and businesses with EPC, financing and O&M. The company continues to scale installations quarter after quarter, underscoring strong retail solar demand and execution depth.

EV charging at scale

Under the Tata Power EZ Charge brand, the company operates 5,500+ public charging points, 1.2 lakh+ home chargers, and 1,200+ bus charging points across India-supporting passenger EVs, fleets and e-buses with AC and DC fast chargers and an app-based experience. Targeted mega-charger hubs and highway corridors are expanding coverage further, often in collaboration with Tata Motors and city transport undertakings.

Distribution leadership and reliability

In Delhi, Tata Power-DDL serves 21 lakh customers across North and North-West Delhi, consistently ranking among top utilities on smart-grid readiness and low losses. In Mumbai, Tata Power’s distribution business serves 7.6-8 lakh consumers over 485 sq. km, with a growing smart-meter base and a ‘green consumers’ program. In Odisha, Tata Power leads four DISCOMs covering Western, Southern, Central and Northern regions, which have recorded steady operational improvements and received top national rankings.

Landmark generation and transmission assets

The portfolio includes Maithon Power Limited (1,050 MW), a JV with Damodar Valley Corporation that supplies multiple states, and Powerlinks Transmission, a JV with Power Grid Corporation that built the 1,200-km Tala transmission system bringing hydro power from Bhutan to India-an early public-private milestone in India’s grid build-out.

Power trading and energy solutions

Through Tata Power Trading Company (TPTCL), the group holds a Category-I trading licence and works with utilities and commercial-industrial customers for short-, medium- and long-term power (including renewables and round-the-clock blends). TPTCL has been ranked among India’s top traders and is active in enabling open-access green energy.

Strategic priorities

Management has outlined a multi-year plan to accelerate clean energy, targeting 23 GW renewables by FY30 with large utility-scale additions, hybrid and storage projects, and continued growth in rooftop and distributed energy. The expansion is backed by ₹1.46 lakh crore planned capex across the decade, with 60% directed to renewables, and dovetails with India’s push for 500 GW non-fossil capacity by 2030.

Community and inclusion

The company’s TP Renewable Microgrid venture with The Rockefeller Foundation aims to power thousands of rural communities through solar microgrids-an effort already recognized by international forums and designed to impact millions over time. Separately, the Tirunelveli solar factory is notable for a majority-women workforce, reflecting Tata Power’s emphasis on inclusive growth.

Why it matters

Tata Power’s integrated model generation to socket, hardware to software helps it balance long-cycle utility investments with fast-growing retail platforms like rooftop solar and EV charging. The company’s scale in distribution provides a stable base, while domestic solar manufacturing and trading arms strengthen resilience and market reach. With a clear pivot to clean energy, credible operating franchises in large urban and state markets, and one of India’s largest public charging networks, Tata Power is positioned as a central player in the country’s energy transition in the years ahead.

Tata Power share price as on 05 Dec 2025 is Rs. 385. Over the past 6 months, the Tata Power share price has decreased by 2.2% and in the last one year, it has decreased by 9.55%. The 52-week low for Tata Power share price was Rs. 326.35 and 52-week high was Rs. 447.7.
