What will be the tax implication if my shares are accepted in the Wipro Buyback?

If your shares are accepted in the Wipro Buyback, any profit earned will be taxed as capital gains. The taxable gain will be calculated as the difference between the buyback price and the purchase price of the shares. Depending on how long you have held the shares, the gain may be classified as either Short-Term Capital Gain (STCG) or Long-Term Capital Gain (LTCG).

The gain will be treated as Short-Term Capital Gain (STCG) if the shares are held for up to 12 months and are taxed at 20%. The gain will be treated as Long-Term Capital Gain (LTCG) if the shares are held for more than 12 months and taxed at 12.5%.
