    What should I do before requesting closure of my ICICI Direct account?

    Before submitting a request to close your ICICI Direct Trading and Demat account, please ensure the following conditions are completed. This will help avoid delays in processing your closure request. 

    1. Ensure there are no holdings in your account

    Before initiating the closure request, make sure there are no investments in your Demat or Trading account, such as:

    i. Equity shares

    ii. Mutual funds

    iii. NPS units

    iv. Bonds or other fixed income instruments

    You may sell these holdings or transfer them to another Demat account before submitting the closure request.

    2. Close all open trading positions

    Ensure that there are no active positions in any trading segment, including:

    i. Equity delivery or intraday trades

    ii. Futures & Options (F&O) positions

    iii. Commodity derivatives

    iv. Currency derivatives

    All open trades must be squared off before requesting account closure.

    3. Cancel all active investment plans

    Deactivate any ongoing investment instructions, such as:

    i. Mutual Fund SIP, STP or TIP

    ii. NPS SIP or recurring contributions

    iii. Any other scheduled investment transactions

    All investment plans must be cancelled prior to submitting the closure request.

    4. Remove bank mandates and pending payment instructions

    Please ensure that:

    i. No auto-debit mandates are active

    ii. No mandate registration or modification request is pending

    iii. No payment or fund transfer requests are under process

    5. Release pledged securities or margin allocations

    If you have pledged shares for trading or margin:

    i. Unpledge securities used under Shares as Margin

    ii. Close any MTF (Margin Trading Facility) positions

    iii. Ensure no funds or securities are blocked for trading limits

    6. Deactivate premium or global services

    If you are subscribed to any additional services linked to your account, please deactivate them, such as:

    i. ICICI Direct Premium Portfolio

    ii. Portfolio Management Services (PMS)

    iii. Interactive Brokers account (IBKR)

    7. Ensure there are no pending IPO or investment allocations

    Make sure the following are completed or cancelled:

    i. IPO applications

    ii. Third-party investment allocations

    iii. Blocked funds or securities for trading or investments

    8. Close or resolve any open service requests

    Before initiating the closure request, confirm that:

    i. No NPS service requests are pending (e.g., nominee change, withdrawal, Tier II activation)

    ii. No exception or internal processing requests are open on your account

    9. Clear any outstanding balance

    Make sure that:

    i. Your account does not have a negative balance

    ii. All charges, dues, or adjustments have been cleared

    10. Demat account prerequisites before closure

    Before closing your Demat account, please ensure:

    i. There are no holdings in the Demat account

    ii. The account is active (inactive accounts may need reactivation before closure)

    iii. All pending Demat maintenance charges or dues are cleared

    Once all the above conditions are fulfilled, you can proceed with submitting the Trading and Demat account closure request through ICICI Direct.
