    ICICI Direct NRI Account

    What is the process for converting RI to NRI ?

    If your residential status has recently changed from Resident (RI) to Non Resident (NRI), you should update your account to NRI status to comply with FEMA and RBI regulations before carrying out further investment journey.

    Types of NR Accounts:

    Non-resident external (NRE) accounts Non-resident ordinary (NRO) account
    • You need to open a new NRE PIS and Non-PIS Account
    • Invest Overseas Earnings
    • Repatriable funds
    • Suitable for global income management
    • Your existing resident account shall get converted to NRO Non-PIS Account; You need to open NRO PIS Account
    • Invest income earned in India
    • Manage Rent, Pension or any other income in India
    • Suitable for domestic income management

     

    Channels to convert your resident account:

    ICICI Bank Net Banking

    Log into your Net Banking account and follow this path:

    Login > Customer Service > Service Request > Click on ‘Convert your SB account to NRO Account’

     

    Nearest ICICI Bank or ICICI Direct Branch

    You can visit any of the ICICIdirect or ICICI Bank branches across India and can convert to your resident account to NRI Savings, Demat & Trading Account

     

    ICICI Securities Online Process

    For Non-Face to Face process, you need to register on ICICIdirect NRI Webpage and generate ARN. Once journey is complete, customer service team will get in touch and facilitate in account conversion. This process is only applicable if your are initiating the account conversion process outside India from a foreign country.

     

    Important Points:

    • For Net Banking requests, ensure your Debit Card and registered mobile number are active for authentication.
    • Close all open positions and standing instructions (e.g., SEP, SIP, VTC, FD, NPS) before initiating the RI to NRI conversion process.
    • Ensure there are no pending transactions or requests linked to your existing Resident account before submitting the conversion request.
    • Mutual Fund holdings are not transferred automatically and require a separate request through the ‘Internal Transfer Annexure’ after account conversion.
    • Choose the appropriate account based on your investment requirements before initiating the conversion.
    • Keep all mandatory documents ready to ensure a smooth and hassle-free conversion process.
