LOCAL STOCKS ENDED ON A MILDLY NEGATIVE NOTE

The key domestic indices closed on a weak note. Nifty Private Bank, Nifty Bank and Nifty Media shares rose, while Nifty Realty and Nifty Metal shares retreated.


As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, edged lower by 120.83 points or 0.16% to 74,781.76. The Nifty 50 index moved lower by 79.70 points or 0.34% to 23,398.10. In the past three trading sessions, the Nifty and Sensex drifted lower by 1% and 1.05%, respectively.


The broader market performed better than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index inched down 0.35% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index posted modest losses of 0.49%.


The market breadth was negative. On the BSE, 2021 shares advanced and 3168 shares fell. A total of 211 shares were unchanged.


Tata Steel Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 315.1 lakh shares and registered a sharp increase of 7.57% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has retreated by around 1.82% in last one-month and has risen sharply 10.24% over last one year.


HDFC Bank Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 314.12 lakh shares and saw a sharp spurt of 34.04% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has slumped by around 5.09% in last one-month and has slumped 28.17% over last one year.


Index action


The Nifty Private Bank index moved higher by 0.48% to 27436.0 today. The index is modestly lower by 1.59% in last one week and has slipped by 0.83% over last one month. It is up around 2.92% in last one year. Yes Bank Ltd (up 5.29%), HDFC Bank Ltd (up 2.08%), Bandhan Bank Ltd (up 1.45%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd (up 0.59%) and RBL Bank Ltd (up 0.43%) went up.


The Nifty Realty index plunged 2.70% to 848.5 today. The index has slumped by 4.81% in last one week and has drifted lower by 2.88% over last one month. It slipped by 1.33% in last one year. Godrej Properties Ltd (down 6.62%), Aditya Birla Real Estate Ltd (down 4.17%), Lodha Developers Ltd (down 4%), Prestige Estates Projects Ltd (down 2.95%) and Oberoi Realty Ltd (down 2.84%) moved lower.


The Nifty Metal index declined by 2.30% to 12999.05 today. The index is up 0.98% in last one week and has posted modest gains of 0.59% over last one month. It has soared by 36.33% in last one year. Welspun Corp Ltd (down 3.61%), National Aluminium Company Ltd (down 3.31%), Hindalco Industries Ltd (down 3.21%), JSW Steel Ltd (down 2.99%) and Hindustan Zinc Ltd (down 2.89%) slipped.


Global Markets


European markets edged higher.


DOW futures are up by 0.59% today.


MCX Crude oil futures are trading lower by 2.47% at Rs 9718.0 per barrel.


NIFTY50 futures closed with a modest gain of 0.06% at 23499 and are in a premium of 101 points compared to NIFTY50.
