About Company

Operational since 1994, NSE was India’s first fully electronic stock exchange. Based in Mumbai, it revolutionized trading by replacing manual processes with a secure and transparent electronic system. Today, NSE is a global leader, ranking as the world’s largest derivatives exchange by contract volumes and the third-largest in cash equity trades globally. It offers trades in equity, derivatives, debt, ETFs, and much more. NSE also provides clearing, settlement, indices, and market analytics infrastructure to support the financial ecosystem in India. Key shareholders include LIC of India (10.7%), State Bank of India, Morgan Stanley, and the Canada Pension Investment plan board. 

Business Model & Operations 

NSE earns revenue from multiple sources:  

  • Transaction and Listing Fees: Charges based on trade volumes and listings 
  • Platform Services: Clearing, settlement, indices, and market data 
  • Value-added Services: Financial education, certification, and analytics tools 
  • SME Platform: NSE EMERGE lists small and medium enterprises without a full IPO process 


With over 11 crore unique investors, 2,720 listed entities (as of March 31, 2025), and a total market cap of over ₹410.87 lakh crore ($4.81 trillion) till (March 31, 2025), NSE commands massive scale and reach.
