LOCAL STOCKS ENDED ON A MILDLY POSITIVE NOTE

The key domestic indices ended marginally higher. Nifty Metal, Nifty Financial Services and Nifty Media shares gained, while Nifty Realty and Nifty Healthcare Index shares retreated.

As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, edged higher by 362.57 points or 0.48% to 76,515.43. The Nifty 50 index posted modest gains of 24.25 points or 0.10% to 23,897.70. In the past three trading sessions, the Nifty and Sensex moved lower by 0.66% and 0.56%, respectively.

The broader market failed to keep pace with frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index remained flat and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index added 0.24%.

The market breadth was well-supported. On the BSE, 2864 shares advanced and 2353 shares declined. A total of 237 shares were unchanged.

Tata Steel Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 365.01 lakh shares and registered a sharp increase of 6.72% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has plunged around 3.56% in last one-month and has jumped 9.74% over last one year.

Eternal Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 178.24 lakh shares and recorded a sharp decline of 72.97% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has surged around 4.61% in last one-month and has drifted lower 0.40% over last one year.

Index action

The Nifty Metal index gained modestly by 1.07% to 13317.45 today. The index has lost 1.86% in last one week and has posted modest gains of 2.02% over last one month. It is sharply higher by 36.17% in last one year. APL Apollo Tubes Ltd (up 4.20%), Tata Steel Ltd (up 2.49%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd (up 2.22%), Jindal Steel Ltd (up 1.75%) and JSW Steel Ltd (up 1.30%) moved higher.

The Nifty Financial Services index inched up by 0.49% to 26051.0 today. The index is slightly lower by 1.36% in last one week and has posted modest losses of 3.93% over last one month. It edged up by 0.74% in last one year. SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (up 3.50%), BSE Ltd (up 3.14%), Power Finance Corporation Ltd (up 2.92%), HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (up 2.42%) and REC Ltd (up 1.63%) traded higher.

The Nifty Realty index slipped by 0.90% to 907.9 today. The index is up 0.72% in last one week and has edged up 0.34% over last one month. It is up around 2.98% in last one year. Brigade Enterprises Ltd (down 2.27%), Prestige Estates Projects Ltd (down 1.75%), Oberoi Realty Ltd (down 1.39%), Godrej Properties Ltd (down 0.97%) and Lodha Developers Ltd (down 0.97%) dropped.

The Nifty Healthcare Index index inched down by 0.87% to 16408.05 today. The index is modestly lower by 0.93% in last one week and has edged lower 1.38% over last one month. It has advanced by 14.18% in last one year. Zydus Lifesciences Ltd (down 2.01%), Mankind Pharma Ltd (down 1.73%), Divis Laboratories Ltd (down 1.62%), Laurus Labs Ltd (down 1.53%) and Fortis Healthcare Ltd (down 1.36%) went down.

Global Markets

European markets gained slightly.

DOW futures are edging higher by 1.10% today.

MCX Crude oil futures are modestly lower by 0.76% at Rs 8631.0 per barrel.

NIFTY50 futures closed with a modest gain of 0.20% at 24048 and are in a premium of 150 points compared to NIFTY50.
