DOMESTIC STOCKS EDGE LOWER FOLLOWING A WEAK PREVIOUS SESSION

The key equity barometers traded with marginal gains in morning trades. Nifty moved in a range of 23495-23403. Nifty Media, Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Financial Services shares rose, while Nifty Pharma and Nifty Healthcare Index shares retreated.


NIFTY edged up 0.13% in last session and plunged 4.69% over last one-week.


At 12:15 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, up 83.27 points to 74,847.50. The Nifty 50 index inched up 6.10 points or 0.03% to 23,437.60.


The broader market performed worse than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index lost 0.22% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index posted modest gains of 0.21%.


The market breadth was fragile. On the BSE, 2310 shares advanced and 2517 shares fell. A total of 266 shares were unchanged.


Nifty Media index rallied 1.24% to 1545. The index has posted modest losses of 2.12% in last one month and lost 5.85% over last one year. Tips Music, adding 3.70%, led the gainers followed by PVR Inox, inching higher 2.83% and Saregama India, edging up 2.36%, respectively. Out of 10 index constituents, 7 are reporting gains today.


Nifty PSU Bank index inched up 0.75% to 8432. The index has eased by 3.13% in last one month and soared 21.65% over last one year. Punjab Natl.Bank, gaining 1.82%, led the gainers followed by Bank of Baroda, up 1.60% and Bank of Maha, up 1.18%, respectively. Out of 12 index constituents, 9 are reporting gains today.


Nifty Pharma index posted modest losses of 0.56%. The index has posted modest gains of 0.80% in last one month and posted strong gains of 21.04% over last one year. Sai Life, losing 3.34%, led the losers followed by Piramal Pharma, down 1.79% and Gland Pharma, edging lower 1.65%, respectively. Out of 20 index constituents, 15 are reporting loss today.


Asian markets declined on Thursday. China’s Shanghai composite is modestly lower by 0.37%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is sharply lower by 1.23%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is up 0.20%.


In Europe, German DAX ticked up 0.27%, UK’s FTSE 100 shed 1.31% and French CAC declined 1.94%.
