Sri Lanka port to increase capacity
News: According to media sources, Sri Lanka Colombo port is planning to handle 24 million TeUs containers by 2040. Currently, the port handles 7-8 million TeUs and is a major transhipment hub for India (81% of the overall cargo is transhipment and 70% of it is linked to Indian markets).
Views: Of the 8 million TeUs existing capacity, the port will be adding 6 million TeUs by 2025 (at its East and West terminal, Adani Ports will be handling 3.5 mil TeUs Western terminal). Further, the port will be adding 10 mil TeUs in the north port by 2040.
