News: As per media reports, Lifestyle retailers and apparel brands have seen a surge in sales of their full-price merchandise despite price increases.
Views: Consumer sentiment is upbeat, particularly for discretionary purchases, with consumers undergoing massive wardrobe refresh after reopening of office and social gatherings. Many brands are already doing good sales at full price and overall discounting in the industry is lower due to strong demand, which would probably enable retailers to maintain their gross margins in spite of input cost inflation. Retailers have had strong full-price sell-through in February-May. The industry is expecting Spring-Summer 2022 full price sales to be even higher than the Autumn Winter 21 season with much lower discounting, which should support gross margins.
