News: The Indian Navy carried out a successful test-firing of a Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM) from frontline warship INS Visakhapatnam, validating the capability to engage the weapon as an anti-ship missile. The MRSAM has been jointly developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) & Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and produced at Bharat Dynamics (BDL)
Views: We believe successful testing of MRSAM as an anti-ship missile from Indian Navy is significant. The test firings of land based MRSAM by Indian Air Force and Indian Army have already been completed. Bharat Dynamics (BDL) is the lead integrator of MRSAM missile systems with Bharat Electronics (BEL) as the manufacturer and supplier of key electronic systems used these missiles. As per the BEL management, orders worth Rs 15000-20000 crore for MRSAM’s electronic systems are expected to be placed with BEL by the Air Force & Army in FY24E. The other players involved in the supply chain of MRSAM are Bharat Forge and Premier Explosives
Impact: Positive
