ENVIRONMENT MINISTRY EXTENDS DEADLINE FOR INSTALLATION OF EMISSION CONTROL EQUIPMENT BY TWO YEARS
News: The Environment Ministry has extended the deadline for installation of emission control equipment across cola based power plants by two years. The category A plants will now have to get installed the equipments by 2024 instead of 2022 while category B and other remaining plants have to meet the norms by 2025 and 2026, respectively. The ministry has also raised the penalty for non compliance of the above deadlines in the form of penalty charged on KwHr basis.
View: The ordering opportunity will get extended for capital goods players given the state utilities may be the last in the chain to order fot SOX equipments. The only ordering in the FGD Spcace in done by NTPC. However, from a practical standpoint installation of equipment was not about to happen by 2022 as private and state sector has not been so forthcoming in installing the same.
Impact: Neutral.
