The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a notice to Nestlé India

ICICIdirect Research 22 Oct 2026 DISCLAIMER

News: As per media reports, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a notice to Nestlé India over potentially misleading health claims made for its infant formula products, Lactogen Pro 1 Powder and Nan Excella Pro Stage 1. The regulator flagged the claim that “5 HMOs helps support normal immune system”, stating that it could imply suitability for supporting immunity in relation to a specific physiological condition. FSSAI also questioned claims regarding the product’s whey protein content and has sought scientific justification from the company.

View: Nestlé India has previously maintained that its products comply with applicable FSSAI regulations and that the statements on product labels are factual. However, the company is yet to comment on the latest notice concerning its infant formula products. We do not expect any significant immediate financial impact from the development. The nutrition segment contributes ~29% of Nestlé India’s FY26 revenue (as per our calculation). We await Nestlé India’s response to the latest FSSAI notice and will monitor further developments.

Impact: Neutral
