Maruti Suzuki has announced a price increase of up to ₹20,000 on select models

News: In a press release, Maruti Suzuki has announced a price increase of up to ₹20,000 on select models, effective September 2026, marking its third price hike since May. The company attributed the revision to sustained increases in input costs and elevated inflationary pressures, stating that it has undertaken cost-reduction measures but is now constrained to pass on part of the cost burden to customers while minimising the impact. Unlike the previous two portfolio-wide increases, the latest hike will be limited to selected models.

View: The price hike is positive for Maruti’s margins as it provides some offset to continued input-cost inflation. This third hike was over and above the two price hikes which the company guided during its Q1FY27 call. With Tata Motors having also raised PV prices by up to ₹25,000 from September, the move appears more industry-wide than company-specific, reducing the risk of a significant competitive disadvantage.

Impact: Positive
