Honeywell Aerospace is accelerating deliveries of TPE331-12B engines for HAL

News: Honeywell Aerospace is accelerating deliveries of TPE331-12B engines for HAL’s HTT-40 basic trainer aircraft, with eight engines expected to be delivered by December 2026, including four already supplied, and another eight by mid-2027. This would bring direct engine deliveries to 16, around two years ahead of the earlier mid-2029 schedule. Engine supply-chain issues had delayed HAL’s production and contributed to it missing its FY26 target of delivering 12 HTT-40 aircraft.

View: Faster engine deliveries should ease a key bottleneck in HTT-40 execution, supporting HAL’s plan to scale production to 20 aircraft annually across its Bengaluru and Nashik facilities once supplies stabalize. HAL has an order backlog of 67 HTT-40 aircraft, while a follow on expected of 36 aircraft, with the remaining requirement subject to further procurement. The programme also includes an 88-engine supply and manufacturing arrangement with Honeywell, under which the first 16 engines will be supplied directly before HAL takes up local assembly and expands repair and overhaul capabilities. Timely engine supplies and production ramp-up will be key to clearing the existing backlog and converting potential follow-on demand into additional orders

Impact: Positive
