GRSE has been granted Navratna status by the Department of Public Enterprises

News: GRSE has been granted Navratna status by the Department of Public Enterprises, Government of India, in recognition of its consistent operational and financial performance. The elevation follows a strong growth phase during which the company's revenue increased from ₹1,754 crore in FY22 to ₹7,002 crore in FY26, while PAT grew from ₹190 crore to ₹748 crore. The development comes amid ongoing capacity expansion initiatives and follows the recent commissioning of three indigenously built naval platforms — INS Dunagiri, INS Sanshodhak and INS Agray.

View: The grant of Navratna status was already under consideration and reflects GRSE's strong financial performance and operational execution. The upgrade from Miniratna Category-I to Navratna provides significantly greater financial and operational autonomy, including the ability to undertake investments of up to ₹1,000 crore or 15% of net worth on a single project (subject to limits), enter joint ventures, establish subsidiaries and pursue acquisitions without requiring prior government approval. This is expected to accelerate decision-making, support ongoing brownfield and greenfield expansion plans and enhance the company's ability to capitalize on emerging opportunities in naval shipbuilding, commercial vessels, exports and maritime infrastructure.
