Foreign Portfolio Outflows – taking a pause

ICICIdirect Research 24 Apr 2026 DISCLAIMER

Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) aggressive selling took a pause in the first half of April 2026. While they still sold ~ ₹45k Crores so far during the month, most of the selling was seen in the first week of the month(~45k crores) and they have been largely net buyers post 10th April.
The sector-wise breakdown shows that financial stocks bore the brunt of the selling, with over 40% of the April outflows concentrated in BFSI space. At the same time, Consumer services and Healthcare stocks also witnessed selling pressure. Despite the intense foreign selling,
Metal and Power stocks shown significant resilience and even witnessed net buying from FIIs even in such market conditions. We expect relative outperformance to continue among these sectors in coming weeks.
Also, looking at recent buying from FIIs, we believe worst seems to be over and recent weakness can be used as fresh entry opportunity for a target of ~25000 levels in May series.
