News: Cochin Shipyard (CSL) reported revenue from operations of ₹1,094 crore in Q1FY27, up 2.4% YoY (-26.3% QoQ), with growth led by strong shipbuilding execution. Shipbuilding revenue increased 59.5% YoY to ₹700 crore and contributed 64% of revenue, while ship-repair revenue declined 37.4% YoY to ₹394 crore. EBITDA declined 20.0% YoY (-37.6% QoQ) to ₹193 crore, with EBITDA margin contracting 493 bps YoY to 17.7%, primarily due to a weaker segment mix and lower contribution from ship repair. PAT declined 19.4% YoY (-45.2% QoQ) to ₹152 crore.

View: Q1FY27 marked a positive recovery in shipbuilding execution, with the segment recovering after a weak base in Q1FY26. While, ship-repair execution remained subdued and weighed on the overall performance. The decline in EBITDA margin was largely driven by the weaker ship-repair mix, which carries significantly higher margins than shipbuilding. With a healthy order backlog of ~₹18,000 crore (~3.6x FY26 revenue), CSL continues to have strong medium-term revenue visibility. We expect shipbuilding execution to remain the key growth driver, while a recovery in ship-repair activity could provide additional operating leverage; however, the pace of execution and margin normalisation remain key monitorables.
