News: As per media reports, a sample of Nestle India's Low Fat Dairy Whitener, collected from The Lalit hotel in New Delhi, has been declared "unsafe" and "substandard" by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) following laboratory analysis. The report found the product non-compliant with requirements under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, following which FSSAI directed Bharat Hotels to stop selling the identified product.

View: Nestle India stated that the product is safe to consume and complies with applicable regulatory requirements, noting that the FSSAI lab report considers total phosphorus without accounting for the substantial natural phosphorus contribution from milk-based ingredients. Milk and Nutrition contribute ~33% of Nestle India’s portfolio, with the majority coming from nutrition, while dairy and dairy whiteners constitute a small part of the portfolio.

Impact: Neutral
