Transfer shares from one demat account to another

1 Min 12 Mar 2021 0 COMMENT

A Step-by-step guide to move shares from one demat account to another.

  1. Get the slip

Get a debit instruction slip from your DP (you may already have it in a booklet you got while opening the account).

  1. Enter share details

Write the names of the shares and their ISIN numbers in the debit instruction slip.

  1. Fill the client ID

Enter the target client ID. This is a code that has 16 characters, which includes the client ID and the ID of the depository participants.

  1. Choose the right option

  • Intra-depository if you are transferring to an account with the same depository.
  • Inter-depository if you are transferring to another depository.
  1. Submit the DIS

Check for accuracy and submit the slip to your DP. Retain the acknowledgement.

Points to remember:

  • It will take between three and five days for the transfer.
  • The DP from which you are transferring may charge a small amount.

Online Transfer

  • You can use facilities like ‘e-Instructions’ of ICICI Bank or ‘easiest’ of CDSL to transfer.
