GIFT NIFTY WAS SLIGHTLY HIGHER, ASIAN MARKETS INCHED DOWN

Local stock markets are expected to begin on a subdued note today. The Gift Nifty April 2026 futures are up 0.21 points, indicating a slightly firm opening for the benchmark index today. The domestic equity market finished marginally lower in last session, with BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 in negative territory.The BSE Sensex has edged lower 4.59% over the last one month, while the NSE Nifty has eased 4.95% over the same period.


In Asia today, sentiment was cautiously negative. China’s SSE Composite Index posted modest losses of 0.12% while Japan’s Nikkei 225 slipped 0.95%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index drifted lower 0.27%.


Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth Rs 6,121 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers to the tune of Rs 4,596 crore in the Indian equity market on 7 October 2026, provisional data showed.


Overnight on Wall Street, stocks eased across the board. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was modestly lower by 341.41 points, or 0.66%, and closed at 51200.87. The S&P 500 slipped 0.23% to end at 7822.15, and the NASDAQ Composite eased 0.24% to 27555.31.


Yesterday, the S&P BSE Sensex ended slightly lower by 429.11 points or 0.59% to 72638.70. The Nifty 50 index edged lower 173.05 points or 0.76% to 22603.05. Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd was top gainer in Nifty 50 yesterday, rising slightly by 1.88% to Rs 440. The stock has moved higher around 1.43% in last one-week and trades lower 10.47% over last one-month.


In sectoral indices, only Nifty PSU Bank index moved higher yesterday, gaining 1% on the day.
