EQUITIES TRADE WITH SMALL GAINS

The key equity barometers traded with slight gains in early trade. Nifty opened at 22665 and hit a high of 22733 in first half hour of trade. Nifty Chemicals, Nifty Media and Nifty PSU Bank shares rose, while Nifty Healthcare Index and Nifty Pharma shares declined.


At 09:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, up 111.66 points to 72,640.73. The Nifty 50 index added 11.75 points or 0.05% to 22,727.95.


The broader market lagged behind the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index moved higher by 0.48% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index inched up 0.68%.


The market breadth was healthy. On the BSE, 2890 shares gained and 923 shares fell. A total of 218 shares were unchanged.


Nifty Chemicals index climbed 2.03% to 28599. The index has lost 6.66% in last one month and lost 3.95% over last one year. Jubilant Ingrev., inching higher 3.84%, led the gainers followed by Aarti Industries, adding 3.13% and Sumitomo Chemi., edging up 2.76%, respectively. All 21 constituents are advancing today.


Nifty Media index rose 1.83% to 1569. The index has edged lower 1.05% in last one month and posted modest losses of 1.35% over last one year. Sun TV Network, up 3.24%, led the gainers followed by PVR Inox, gaining 2.20% and Nazara Technolo., gaining 2.07%, respectively. Out of 9 index constituents, 8 are reporting gains today.


Nifty Healthcare Index index shed 1.14%. The index has eased by 2.24% in last one month and spiked 17.10% over last one year. Max Healthcare, easing 3.84%, led the losers followed by Apollo Hospitals, edging lower 2.99% and Dr Reddy`s Labs, losing 1.74%, respectively. Out of 20 index constituents, 14 are reporting loss today.


In NIFTY500, KSB is the top gainer today, registering sharp gains of 7.21% to Rs 880.70. The counter is marginally up 1.92% in last one year. It recorded an average volume quantity of 10668.17 in last five sessions compared to 10735.57 over last one month.


Asian markets advanced on Wednesday. China’s Shanghai composite is up 0.27%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is modestly lower by 0.24%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is sharply higher by 1.69%.
