DOMESTIC MARKETS EXTEND THEIR DOWNWARD MOVE

The key equity barometers traded with losses in morning trades. Nifty moved in a range of 23080-22808. Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Realty and Nifty Bank shares declined.


NIFTY edged up 0.34% in last session and registered heavy losses of 4.91% over last one-week.


At 12:15 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, shed 950.73 points or 1.29% to 72,945.01. The Nifty 50 index retreated 308.20 points or 1.33% to 22,832.30.


The broader market outperformed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index declined 1.28% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index fell 1.31%.


The market breadth was unfavorable. On the BSE, 1506 shares rose and 3444 shares retreated. A total of 262 shares were unchanged.


Nifty PSU Bank index retreated 2.50%. The index has posted modest losses of 3.59% in last one month and climbed 12.19% over last one year. Bank of India, losing 4.49%, led the losers followed by Bank of Maha, easing 3.90% and Union Bank (I), edging lower 3.69%, respectively. All 12 index constituents are reporting losses today.


Nifty Realty index fell 1.78%. The index has fallen 5.28% in last one month and edged lower by 0.75% over last one year. A B Real Estate, down 3.34%, led the losers followed by Lodha Developers, slipping 2.54% and Brigade Enterpr., slipping 2.05%, respectively. All 10 index constituents are reporting losses today.


Nifty Bank index shed 1.78%. The index has drifted lower by 3.36% in last one month and edged higher by 1.10% over last one year. Yes Bank, down 4.10%, led the losers followed by Union Bank (I), losing 3.69% and Punjab Natl.Bank, down 2.87%, respectively. Out of 14 index constituents, 13 are reporting loss today.


Asian markets declined on Monday. China’s Shanghai composite is significantly lower by 1.58%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is ahead by 0.69%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is trading lower by 0.73%.


In Europe, German DAX posted modest losses of 0.40%, UK’s FTSE 100 posted modest gains of 0.14% and French CAC eased 0.04%.


In Commodities, MCX Gold recorded sharp losses of 2.08% to trade at Rs 1,50,750 per 10 grams. MCX Crude oil rallied 2.24% to trade at Rs 8,847 per barrel. MCX Copper drifted lower by 0.81% to trade at Rs 1,407.95 per kg.
