LOCAL STOCKS FINISHED MARGINALLY LOWER

The key domestic indices closed slightly lower. Nifty IT, Nifty FMCG and Nifty Media shares rose, while Nifty Healthcare Index and Nifty Pharma shares retreated.


As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, edged lower by 12.99 points to 76,944.28. The Nifty 50 index down 24.60 points to 24,055.80.


The broader market outpaced the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index posted modest losses of 0.74% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index edged higher by 0.04%.


The market breadth was negative. On the BSE, 1962 shares advanced and 3233 shares declined. A total of 211 shares were unchanged.


Tata Steel Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 466.63 lakh shares and recorded a sharp increase of 32.27% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has dropped sharply 2.82% in last one-month and has rallied 18.04% over last one year.


HDFC Bank Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 444.17 lakh shares and posted a sharp rise of 39.35% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has slumped by around 5.23% in last one-month and has fallen sharply 25.42% over last one year.

Index action


The Nifty IT index edged higher by 0.98% to 31496.7 today. The index has advanced by 1.94% in last one week and has risen slightly by 1.57% over last one month. It has retreated by 12.73% in last one year. Persistent Systems Ltd (up 3.67%), Mphasis Ltd (up 3.22%), HCL Technologies Ltd (up 2.99%), Infosys Ltd (up 1.96%) and LTM Ltd (up 1.87%) gained.


The Nifty FMCG index moved higher by 0.94% to 46457.15 today. The index has declined sharply by 3.16% in last one week and has shed 6.30% over last one month. It is sharply lower by 18.07% in last one year. ITC Ltd (up 4.34%), Emami Ltd (up 3.48%), Marico Ltd (up 2.21%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd (up 1.39%) and Varun Beverages Ltd (up 1.35%) traded higher.


The Nifty Healthcare Index index shed 1.60% to 16669.85 today. The index has jumped by 3.19% in last one week and has edged up 1.11% over last one month. It has soared by 17.73% in last one year. Max Healthcare Institute Ltd (down 3.75%), Divis Laboratories Ltd (down 3.19%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd (down 2.81%), Laurus Labs Ltd (down 2.79%) and Biocon Ltd (down 2.66%) dropped.


The Nifty Pharma index inched down by 1.45% to 26792.65 today. The index is sharply higher by 3.22% in last one week and has posted modest gains of 2.46% over last one month. It surged by 24.83% in last one year. Divis Laboratories Ltd (down 3.19%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd (down 2.81%), Laurus Labs Ltd (down 2.79%), Ajanta Pharma Ltd (down 2.70%) and Biocon Ltd (down 2.66%) moved down.


Global Markets


European markets posted a modest decline.


DOW futures are lower by 0.64% today.


MCX Crude oil futures are advancing by 2.11% at Rs 8143.0 per barrel.


NIFTY50 futures closed down 0.70% at 24081 and are in a premium of 25 points compared to NIFTY50.
