NTPC's Board has approved the investment proposal for Lara Super Thermal Power Project

ICICIdirect Research 13 Jul 2026 DISCLAIMER

News: NTPC's Board has approved the investment proposal for Lara Super Thermal Power Project Stage-III (2×800 MW) in Chhattisgarh at an estimated cost of ₹20,456.7 crore. The project will add 1,600 MW of thermal generation capacity and forms part of NTPC's ongoing capacity expansion to meet India's rising baseload power demand.

View: The project capex is higher than historical thermal benchmarks and is positive for the domestic capital goods and EPC ecosystem. Larsen & Toubro (L&T), being the reported L1 bidder for NTPC's bulk thermal EPC package, is well placed to secure a large EPC order, while BHEL and other domestic equipment suppliers are likely to benefit through boiler, turbine, generator and balance-of-plant packages

Impact: Positive
