Odisha sets higher target from liquor sector
News: As per media sources, the Odisha government has set a target to collect Rs 8500 crore from the liquor sector in FY23 (up 12%). The State is targeting an increase in the volume of liquor sold for high-end customers. The excise department has also said that for the purpose of tourism promotion, serving of liquor in beach shacks will be allowed in Odisha.
View: Further, excise duty on Foreign Made Foreign Liquor (FMFL) has been reduced from 20 to 15%, while it has been brought down to 10% from 15% in the case of low strength wine, in-order to compete with neighbouring states. However, excise duty for IMFL (Indian made foreign liquor) and beer has been kept unchanged.
