The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) has released its official trading and clearing holiday calendar for 2026. This list is important for commodity traders because holidays can affect price discovery, liquidity, and your ability to enter or exit positions. If you know the closure dates in advance, you can plan hedges, rollovers, and risk limits better especially when global commodity markets are moving while India’s market is shut.
Unlike many markets that follow a single trading window, MCX operates in two sessions. The morning session runs from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and the evening session runs from 5:00 PM to 11:30 PM / 11:55 PM.
Because of this two-session structure, MCX holidays can be of two types:
This is one reason why MCX holidays can differ from equity market holidays. Some national holidays may overlap, but religious and regional festivals often create differences, and MCX can keep one session open even if the other is closed.
Below is the MCX holiday list for 2026 as per the provided calendar, along with session status.

Some key holidays in 2026 fall on weekends, when MCX is usually closed anyway. The calendar highlights the following weekend holidays: Mahashivratri (Feb 15, Sunday), Id-Ul-Fitr (Mar 21, Saturday), Independence Day (Aug 15, Saturday), and Diwali Laxmi Pujan (Nov 08, Sunday).
Note: Muhurat trading will be conducted on Sunday, November 08, 2026 and the timings will be notified later.
The MCX Holiday List for 2026 is not just a list of dates, it is a planning tool. Use it to schedule rollovers, manage margin and risk, and avoid surprises when the market is shut fully or partially. If you actively trade in the evening session, pay special attention to partial holidays, because they can change your trading window without warning.
Days when MCX is fully or partially closed for commodity trading.
Both morning & evening sessions are closed. These holidays include Republic Day, Good Friday, Independence Day, Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti and Christmas.
Morning session may be closed while evening remains open, or vice versa. For instance: On Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti, the commodity market stays closed in morning but operates in evening.
MCX is usually closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
MCX holidays are different from equity market holidays. There are some holidays where equity market is closed but commodity market is partially open, like on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti, the commodity market is closed in the morning session but open in the evening session.
Commodity market is open in morning session but closed in evening session as majority of global commodity markets are closed at this day.
