    2. Click on Settings

    3. Select Personal Details

    4. Scroll down to Trading Nominee and click on the edit icon

    5. Enter nominee details. You can add up to 3 nominees using the “+ Add Another Nominee” button.

    Details required:

    • Title

    • First Name and Last Name

    • Relationship with Nominee

    • Nominee’s Date of Birth

    • Mobile Number and Email ID

    • Proof of Identity (PAN, Aadhaar, or Passport)

    • Identification Number

    • Allocation percentage (Enter 100% if there’s only one nominee)

    • Choose which nominee details should appear in your statement of holdings or statement of account

    6. Submit the nominee details.

After submitting the nomination form, your nominee will be added automatically to your Trading and Demat account.

If your Demat account has joint holders, nominees will be added only to your Trading account.

    Important:

    • The nominee’s name must match the ID proof to ensure smooth claim settlement.

    • Joint account holders can add nominees only offline by submitting a signed physical nomination form at the nearest Demat-enabled ICICI Bank branch.

    • If the nominee is a minor, you must mention the guardian’s details. You cannot be the guardian of your own nominee.

How can I add a nominee offline?

You can add a nominee by submitting a duly filled and signed physical nomination form at the nearest Demat-enabled ICICI Bank branch.

If your Demat account has multiple holders, all holders must sign the form.

Can non-individual customers add a nominee to their account?

No, non-individual entities such as societies, trusts, corporate bodies, partnership firms, Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs), and holders of Power of Attorney cannot add nominees.

    Who can be a nominee?

A nominee can be a person who will be a legal heir of your investments in case of any unpredicted event.

You may nominate your parents, spouse, siblings, children, or any other individual.

Non-individuals (like companies or institutions) cannot be nominated.

What is a nominee in a Demat account?

The term 'nominee’ refers to a person designated by the holder of the Demat account to inherit the securities and holdings in case of any unpredicted event. The nominee is the legal beneficiary in this case.

Nomination simplifies the transfer of securities and eliminates the need for legal proceedings, such as succession certificates, etc.

Are there any charges for adding or updating a nominee?

No. There are no charges for adding or updating nominee details in your ICICI Direct account.

Why is it important to add or update a nominee?

If you don’t nominate anyone, transferring your assets may become complicated, requiring legal documents such as a succession certificate or probate, which can be time-consuming and costly.

    Updating your nominee helps:

    • Ensure smooth transfer of assets

    • Avoid family disputes

    • Save time and legal costs

    • Provide peace of mind for you and your family

It is also important to update/change the nominee in the Demat account periodically if there are events such as marriage, divorce, birth of a child, or loss of a nominee.

Is it mandatory to declare a nominee in a Demat account?

Yes. As per SEBI guidelines, it is mandatory to either add a nominee or opt out of nomination in your Demat account.

Why did I receive an email from my broker or depository to update my nominee?

You received the email because SEBI now requires all Demat account holders to declare their nomination preference by adding a nominee.

Can joint account holders appoint a nominee online?

No. For joint accounts, all holders must give consent. Hence, online nomination is not available.

You must visit the nearest Demat-enabled ICICI Bank branch to add or update your nominee.

Do I need to provide the nominee’s email and mobile number?

Yes, as per regulatory requirements, you must provide the nominee’s email ID, mobile number, and proof of identity.

Can I nominate a minor? What details are required?

Yes, you can nominate a minor as your nominee. However, when nominating a minor, you are required to provide the following additional information:

    1. Name of the minor

    2. Date of birth of the minor

    3. Address of the minor

    4. Name of the guardian

    5. Date of birth of the guardian
