What is a Basket Order?

A Basket Order is a facility that allows you to place multiple Futures and Options (F&O) orders—across the same or different underlyings—in one go. This makes it easier to execute complex strategies like spreads, straddles, and condors without placing each leg manually.

How do I access Basket Orders

You can access the Basket Order feature both on the ICICIdirect Website and Mobile App:

Website: Navigate to F&O > Smart Tools > Basket Order

Mobile App: Go to Tools > Futures & Options > Basket Order

Key Features of Basket Orders

1. Profit/Loss Estimation - Use the Payoff Analyzer to estimate potential profits or losses at various levels of the underlying before placing your order.

2. Readymade Strategies - Don’t want to build a basket from scratch? Use Quick Start to access Predefined Strategy Templates—popular strategies you can use and execute with just a few clicks.

3. No Extra Charges - There are no additional charges for using Basket Orders. However, brokerage is applicable as per your plan—per lot or per order.

Functionality & Sync Across Platforms

- Baskets created or modified on the website will automatically sync with the mobile app and vice versa.
- You can create up to 50 baskets, each holding up to 50 F&O orders.
- Orders can be selectively executed—choose which orders you want to place using checkboxes.
- Both Limit and Market orders are supported.

You can change order type (Market/Limit) & modify quantity.

You cannot change the underlying or Buy/Sell action without deleting and re-adding the order.

Deleting Basket Orders in F&O

Delete an entire basket using the delete icon on the web/app.

Delete individual orders from a basket using the delete icon next to each contract.

Eligible Stocks & Upload via Excel

All F&O-enabled stocks can be added to Basket Orders.

You can upload a .csv file (up to 50 orders) via the web to create baskets

Margin Benefits: Required vs Final Margin

View Margin Tool

The “View Margin” link helps estimate:

Required Margin: Total margin needed to place selected orders

Final Margin: Position-level margin (after considering hedge/spread benefits)

Example:

Required Margin = SPAN + Initial Exposure Margin

Final Margin = Adjusted for hedge/spread benefit, includes existing positions if selected

Note: Option buy premiums and hedge benefits (from long options) are considered in final margin.
