LOCAL STOCKS POSTED MODEST LOSSES

The key domestic indices finished marginally lower. Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Media and Nifty Bank shares rose, while Nifty IT and Nifty FMCG shares retreated. As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, lost 187.90 points or 0.24% to 77,966.35. The Nifty 50 index inched down 35.75 points or 0.15% to 24,435.95. In the past three trading sessions, the Nifty and Sensex eased by 0.55% and 0.68%, respectively. The broader market performed better than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index edged lower by 0.02% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index moved lower by 0.27%. The market breadth was unfavorable. On the BSE, 2146 shares gained and 2984 shares declined. A total of 192 shares were unchanged. Tata Steel Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 364.84 lakh shares and saw a sharp spurt of 71.04% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has moved higher 0.61% in last one-month and has soared 18.75% over last one year. HDFC Bank Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 269.93 lakh shares and registered a sharp decline of 22.35% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has tumbled 10.87% in last one-month and has dropped sharply 26.94% over last one year. 12 stocks in NSE500 index hit record high today.
