CCS APPROVED PROCUREMENT OF 100 ADDITIONAL K9 VAJRA ARTILLERY GUNS
News:Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has given approval to the Indian Army for procurement of additional K9 Vajra self-propelled artillery guns. The estimated cost of the 100 artillery guns is ~Rs 7000 crore. Indian Army already has 100 K9 Vajra 155-mm, 52-calibre tracked self-propelled howitzer guns, which have been deployed at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China and Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan.
Views: The K9 Vajra artillery guns are being built by Larsen & Toubro (L&T) in partnership with a South Korean firm Hanwha Aerospace. As the CCS approval is in place, the contract of these additional artillery guns will be placed with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) in the coming period. This will be the third such contract to L&T as the first contract of 100 artillery guns has already been delivered by 2021 and the second contract of 100 guns received in 2023. These artillery guns have high indigenisation level of over 80% and also has high export interest from several nations
