News: According to media sources, Ashok Leyland has signed an agreement with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways under the Centre’s vehicle replacement initiative for phasing out old trucks and buses in the Delhi-NCR region. Along with its subsidiary Switch Mobility, the company has become one of the first OEMs to offer special discounts under the scheme aimed at accelerating replacement of ageing commercial vehicles.

View: This move is strategically positive for Ashok Leyland as it can drive incremental demand in the medium and heavy commercial vehicle segment at a time when fleet replacement demand is becoming an important growth driver. The scheme, to be implemented through the NCR Planning Board (NCRPB), targets around 2.07 lakh vehicles (1.91 lakh trucks and 16,329 buses). Incentives include a 5% interest subsidy on vehicle loans for five years, monthly fuel vouchers of up to ₹4,800, EV purchase benefits, waiver of registration fees, motor vehicle tax concessions, and an 8% OEM discount.

Impact: Positive
