    How to open ICICI Direct Global Investment Account?

    Global Investment Platform offered by ICICI Securities is in collaboration with our partner broker Interactive Brokers (IBKR) which is a registered broker with SEC and FINRA.

    ISEC is just acting as a referral partner to a global platform wherein the account opened is with IBKR.

    The customer gets access to invest in six major global markets: US, UK, Germany, Japan, Singapore & Hong Kong where he can invest in listed securities. In order to register for a global account, follow the steps given below -

    a. Login to ICICI Direct 3-in-1/2-in-1 account and click on ‘Get Started’

    b. Subscribe to a plan of your choice

    Click on link https://www.icicidirect.com/mailimages/non_us_commissioncharges.pdf to know the pricing for other markets.

    c. Fill your online Global Investment account opening form

    d. If you’re not CKYC compliant, you will be asked to upload latest copy of your PAN card and address proof

    e. Once your details are verified, you can add funds into your account and start investing

    Note: Once the application is submitted, our partner broker will review the application and activate the account in 2-3 working days. In case if your account opening application is under enhanced due diligence, yout might receive an email to provide & submit the required documents.

    I need to invest in global stocks. Which markets are available for investment?

    Clients can currently invest in six major global markets: US, UK, Germany, Japan, Singapore & Hong Kong.

    How to place an order on ICICIdirect Global Investment?

    From the Global Investment page, users can click on the ‘Invest Now’ button to access their client portal. They can place a trade by clicking on the ‘Trade’ button on the top right corner of the client portal screen.

    I have transferred money to Interactive Brokers today. When will it get reflected in that account? / How much time will it take to deposit the transferred amount in ICICIdirect Global Investment?

    Generally, it takes T+1 working days for the transferred amount to reflect in your account.

    To facilitate a seamless money transfer, please include the below information while initiating the payment:

    <Interactive Brokers Account number (starting with ‘U’)> <Client Name at Interactive Brokers account> e.g. If your account number is U1234567 and Name is John Doe, then add the text: U1234567 John Doe.

     Once this is complete, you can also raise a deposit notification by following the steps in this PDF.

    How to withdraw funds from your ICICIdirect Global account?

    The funds from ICICI Direct Global Account can be withdrawn to any bank account. To withdraw funds, click on ‘Withdraw Funds’ option available on ICICI Direct Global Invest Page.

    1. Transfer to linked Bank Account

    To withdraw funds to linked Bank Account- Enter the amount to be withdrawn and confirm the request. After confirmation, he/she will receive an email from ICICI Bank

    (remitassist@icicibank.com) to submit a duly filed ANNEXURE E. Kindly fill and submit this to your bank either through email OR Internet Banking portal once you receive the email.

    Note: Once you submit the above information, money gets credited to  your linked ICICI bank account in 3-4 working days.

    2. Transfer to Other Account

    To withdraw funds to your Non ICICI Bank Account, please follow the steps mentioned below:

    Step 1: For a first time user, please reset your password. Move to Step 3, if you have already done this

    Step 2: Click the 'Invest Now' button once password has been reset

    Step 3: Click 'Transfer and Pay' → 'Transfer Funds' → 'Make a Withdrawal' on your client portal Step 4: Enter the bank details and place a withdrawal request. You will be asked to enter your password for security purposes

    To check the status of withdrawal, click on ‘View Previous Requests’.

    Can I buy fractional shares in ICICIdirect Global Invest Account?

    Yes, Investors can own slices of tech giants such as Amazon, Facebook and Alphabet with fractional investing in US markets.

    Please note: Only U.S. stocks listed on NYSE, AMEX, NASDAQ, ARCA, or BATS with average daily volume above $10 million and market cap above $400 million are available for fractional shares trading. Non-U.S. stocks are not available for fractional shares trading at this time.

    How to buy fractional shares in ICICIdirect Global Invest Account?

    a) Login to ICICI Direct account and click on Global invest tab.

    b) Now click on ‘Trade’ button which will reveal an order ticket with several input fields.

    c) Search the stock you wish to buy and select it.

    d) Select the USD option and specify the exact amount in dollars. The amount results in decimal quantity of a share and will result in purchase of fractional shares.

    Note: Fractional buying is only available in the US market for select stocks. Click here to check the list of stocks that can be traded in fractional shares.

    How to transfer stocks from other broker to ICICIdirect Global Invest Account?

    The client can transfer US stocks once the ICICI Direct Global Invest Account is Active.

    To initiate the transfer, you need to share the following details with us at globalinvest@icicidirect.com :

    a) Your ICICI Direct Global Invest Account Number which starts with ‘UXXXXXX’, if any

    b) Name of the broker and how will they transfer asset/stock (type of transfer- ACATS, DRS, FOP US, DWAC)

    c) The name of the country from where the asset/stock will be transferred

    d) ISIN of the asset/stock to be transferred OR a copy of the holding statement

    Once we receive the details, we will share the next steps for transferring your holdings from our partner broker.

    How to upgrade/downgrade existing subscription plan for ICICIdirect Global invest?

    This option will be enabled once your trial period of 2 months is over.

    Once this option is available, follow these steps:

    Login to ‘ICICI Direct’ → click on ‘Global Invest’ option on the top → scroll down and click on ‘Update Subscription’ → Select the new subscription plan → click continue and confirm the revised plan.

    Note: The revised downgraded plan will be effective at the time of renewal once the current plan expires and the revised upgraded plan will be effective within 1 working day.

    I need to cancel the ICICI Direct Global Invest Account. What is the process?

    To cancel/deactivate your Global Invest Account, simply follow the steps given below:

    1. Login to ICICI Direct account
    2. Click ‘Global Invest’ option on the top
    3. Scroll down and click ‘Account Settings’ button
    4. Select ‘Deactivate Account’ button
    5. Confirm Deactivation’ request.

     

    Once the deactivation request is received, the client’s account will be moved to a free plan within the next 7-10 days.

    Note: Please liquidate all your investments and withdraw any cash balances within 7 days of such request. Failing to do so will cancel the request and ICICI Direct Global Invest account will continue to be active.

     

    Can I cancel existing de-activation request?

    Yes, deactivation request can be cancelled before the request is processed.

    To cancel de-activation request,

    1. Click ‘Account Settings’
    2. Click on ‘Deactivation Request’
    3.  Click on ‘View Existing Request’
    4. Click on ‘Delete’ request.

    The existing de-activation request will be cancelled and the account will remain active with the current plan.

    I had de-activated my ICICIdirect Global Invest Account, how to re-activate it?

    Currently, we are not allowing re-activation of accounts. Once deactivated, we will not be able to reactivate the account.

    If you wish to re-activate your account later, the better way is to update your subscription plan to zero subscription fee so that you can trade in the future.

    How long does it take to deposit and withdraw my money?

    Generally, both deposits and withdrawals are processed within 1-4 business days.

    Is there a custody fee?

    No, there is no custody fee applicable on your account as of today.

    Who all can invest in global markets through ICICIdirect Global?

    This facility is currently available for Residents Indians (RI's), Non-Resident Indians (NRI's) and Corporates*.

    *For Indian corporates if they fall under any one of the conditions mentioned below-

    • Based in GIFT City
    • Publicly Listed
    • Approved by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to place trades in international markets
    • Has existing assets held abroad and does not require RBI approval
    Which international exchanges can I invest in?

    As of now, you can invest in six major global markets: US, UK, Germany, Japan, Singapore & Hong Kong.

    Is there any minimum investment or balance required?

    There is no minimum investment or balance required although we do recommend you fund your account to the extent required as there is no margin funding possibility on global markets as per RBI’s regulations.

    How much can an individual invest in global markets from India?

    Foreign investments fall under RBI guidelines for remittance which is called Liberalized Remittance Scheme (LRS). As per current LRS limits, an individual can remit abroad up to USD 250,000 every year. This full amount can be utilized for investments in global markets.

    Who is the executing and clearing broker?

    Interactive Brokers LLC is the broker that executes and clears your trades, ICICI Securities is an introducing broker to Interactive Brokers.

    How can I verify ownership of the shares?

    When you go to the global market page i.e. the client portal, you will be able to download your statement, which will show you all the current holdings and a complete history of  all your past transactions. 

    Do I get access to any research reports?

    Yes, you get free access to research reports by Zacks and Reuters stock reports plus. In addition, you get free access to Reuters Fundamental data and Reuters news on the trading platform.

    Where is my investing account held? Who holds my shares? Who is the custodian of my account?

    Your investing account is opened with our partner platform Interactive Brokers LLC - regulated by FINRA and SEC in US. Interactive Brokers is also the executing and clearing broker as well as a global custodian.

    Will I be able to use my margins to buy these shares?

    No, Margin trading or leverage of any kind is not allowed for Indian residents under RBI regulations for global investments. All transactions are on cash-only basis.

    What is the timeframe for settlement?

    The settlement cycle is T+1 for US equities and ETF’s & T+2 for other markets.

    Can I also invest in IPOs in these exchanges?

    No, at present US IPOs are not available for investment to Indian residents. 

    Is my ICICI Direct and ICICI Direct Global account cross marginable? Can I move money between the two accounts?

    No, direct fund transfers from your ICICI Direct account to your Global Invest Account are not allowed.

    What happens if Interactive Brokers goes bankrupt? How am I protected? Is there any Insurance protection?

    Indian residents can only open a cash account, no leverage, no margin trading is permitted at all. Client-owned, fully-paid securities are protected in accounts at depositories and custodians that are specifically identified for the exclusive benefit of clients. IBKR reconciles positions in securities owned by clients daily to ensure that these securities have been received at the depositories and custodians. In addition, every customer is protected by the Securities and Investment Protection Council Insurance (SIPC insurance) by up to USD 500,000 split as USD 250,000 in cash and USD 250,000 in stocks.

    Can I scan the market for top gainers / losers and more?

    Yes, we provide a market scanner tool which allows you to view and filter top gainers, top losers, most active stocks and several other market indicators based on your preference.

    To use it:

    Click on the Menu icon > select ‘Scanners’ > Select ‘Market Scanner’

    What is the portfolio analyst?

    The portfolio analyst is an advanced analysis tool for experienced. It allows you to:

    • Consolidate, track and analyse your complete financial performance.
    • Compare your portfolios performance against benchmarks,
    • Access detailed performance & attribution reports,
    • Add external accounts fromother brokers fora consolidated view of your overall portfolio performance.
    I placed an order, but I am not sure if the order has gone through.

    Please check the status of the pending orders under the ‘Orders and Trades’ tab once you have logged in to the ICICI Direct Global portal.

    I would like to create watchlists, how can I do this?

    To create or manage watchlists in your ICICI Direct Gloabal Invest Account:

    • Log in to your account
    • Click on the ‘watchlist’ widget.
    • Select the blue arrow icon on the top right corner of the widget 
    • A new watchlist panel will open, allowing you to add, remove or track stocks of your choice in real time
    How to get Market Identification Code (MIC) for the order submitted in case which is required to submit at customer’s compliance team?

    Customer can email the request to globalinvest@icicidirect.com and we will arrange to get the required MIC from our partner broker.

    Is there a minimum net worth I need to have to qualify for an ICICI Direct Global Account?

    Yes, to qualify for an ICICI Direct Global Invest Account, your net worth and liquid net worth must be greater than USD 5,000.

    Taxation on stocks traded in foreign exchange / Tax implications on short- and long-term capital gains in ICICI Direct Global Invest Account? Will there be double taxation on gains by US and Indian authorities?

    For individuals residing in India and investing in Foreign Securities taxation on capital gains will be as per Income Tax Act.

    The provisions of the US Tax laws and those of the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA) will determine  how your income derived from global investments is taxed.

    As per the DTAA:

    • Capital gains are taxable as per the domestic law;
    • Dividend is taxable @ 25%; and
    • Interest is taxable @15%

    Can I update nominee in ICICI Direct Global Invest Account?

    Only US-based Individual accounts can add beneficiaries/nomination in the Global Invest Account. Indian clients who register for Global account can instead update a Trusted contact person.

    Trusted Contact Person- The client has the opportunity to provide the name and contact

    information of an individual, referred to as a trusted contact, who IBKR would be authorized to contact and disclose information about their account to address possible financial exploitation, to confirm the specifics of the customer’s current contact information, health status, or the identity of any legal guardian, executor, trustee or holder of a power of attorney.

    This individual is not provided with access to the account nor are they authorized to approve any transactions for the account.

    To add a Trusted Contact:

    1. Log into ICICI Direct Global Invest Account
    2. Select the User menu (head and shoulders icon in the top right corner) followed by Settings
    3. Under Account Settings find the Account Configuration section
    4. Click on the Configure (gear) icon alongside Trusted Contact PersonClick on Add a Trusted Contact Person "+" icon in the upper right-hand corner to add a new Trusted Contact for your account
    5. You will be prompted to specify that individual's name, email address, residential address, home number and relationship

     

    How to download Global account holding statement?

    In order to download holding statement from ICICI Direct Global Invest Account.

    Login to ICICIdirect.com >> Global Invest >> Invest Now >> you will be redirected to global Invest Account homepage>> Go to Performance & Reports >> Statement >> Run Activity Statement >>Select the time range >> Download as PDF.

    Tax statements- Form 1042S and Dividend statements if any, are available under Tax documents section of Performance & reports.

    Do we have list of stock, ETFs available to trade?

    We do not have a list of stocks, ETFs which can be traded or not traded by clients of ICICI Direct.

    You can trade multiple ETFs through your IBKR account. To find specific NASDAQ-listed ETFs, client can follow these steps:

    1. Visit our Contract Search tool (contract.ibkr.info)
    2. Use the Products and Exchange Search feature on our website to view all products sorted by asset class, region, and exchange

    Please Note:Currently at IBKR, Indian residents are restricted from trading

    derivative products such as Options and Futures in the overseas market. They are only allowed to trade Stocks (long only), Vanilla ETFs, Bonds, Mutual Funds, and non-leveraged Forex

    (currency conversion).

    Additionally, they are prohibited from margin or leveraged activities or foreign exchange

    transactions.

    Following restrictions apply to Global trading account for Indian residents at IBKR:

    *  No Margin facility (Pure cash account).

    *  No trading allowed in leveraged instruments (CLPs, Leveraged Forex, Crypto ETFs) or margin products (Futures, Options, etc).

    You get free access to U.S unconsolidated real time market data. This allows you to track U.S stock movements and prices without any additional cost.

    How do I download my reports?

    Go to the ICICI Direct Global client portal and follow these steps:

    • Login to your ICICI Direct Global Invest Account
    • Click on the menu icon on the top left corner
    • Select reports and then select statements.
    • Choose your statement download method (PDF / Excel / HTML)
    • Select the date range (Daily, custom date range, annually, etc.) and download the statement
    What is the process of account transfer in incase of account holder’s demise?

    In the unfortunate event of customer’s demise, the immediate family member of the ICICI Direct account holder should notify Interactive Broker (IBKR) regarding the deceased account via email to

    estateprocessing@interactivebrokers.com

    At that time, general information will be taken and the executor will be provided with information on how to proceed.

    Once IBKR has been notified of the death of an individual account holder, the account will be classified as a deceased account and any activity (e.g., trading, transfers) is generally prohibited until legal authority is established.

    The documents required to establish legal authority can differ depending on the type of account the account holder has at his or her death (e.g., single, joint) and the country of legal residency. These documents will include a death certificate and often other official documents. 

    Note: Please note ISEC or any other person is not allowed to write email on behalf of the customer to estate processing team of IBKR, only the immediate family member is required to send an email.
