BSE Holidays 2023

The Bombay Stock Exchange, also known as BSE, is one of India’s leading and most popular stock exchanges. It was established in 1875 and is the oldest stock exchange in Asia. Today, the exchange boasts of having almost more than 6,000 companies listed on it and has come to be the third-largest stock exchange in the entire world.
Due to its prominence, BSE plays a crucial role in influencing and managing the financial markets in India. The exchange has been providing an efficient capital-raising platform to India’s corporate sector helping them grow over time.
BSE offers trading in various financial instruments including equity, derivatives, currencies, debt instruments and mutual funds. It is also the first listed stock exchange in India. BSE’s benchmark equity index, BSE SENSEX, a 30-share index which includes the top 30 companies by market capitalisation listed on BSE, has become a gauge of the performance of India’s financial market.
However, if you are planning on trading on the BSE, it is essential to be aware of its timings and operable days. You can trade on the BSE from 9:15 am to 3:30 pm on weekdays. Saturday and Sundays are holidays and BSE remains inoperable on those days. Apart from the weekends, you cannot trade on the BSE on certain holidays that are observed for religious, cultural, national, or other reasons.
BSE holidays are declared separately for different trading sectors. Plus, the holidays are divided into trading holidays and clearing holidays, wherein no transactions take place on the former and financial transfers cannot be executed on the latter.
