NIFTY ABOVE 19,500 LEVEL; IT SHARES RALLY FOR 5TH DAY

Domestic indices traded with moderate gains in early-afternoon trade. The Nifty traded tad above the 19,500 level. IT shares witnessed buying demand for the fifth consecutive trading session.

At 12:25 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was up 159.78 points or 0.24% to 65,546.94. The Nifty 50 index added 69.45 points or 0.36% to 19,504.75.

The broader market outperformed the headline indices. The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index gained 0.84% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index rose 0.96%.

The market breadth was strong. On the BSE, 2,340 shares rose and 1,290 shares fell. A total of 204 shares were unchanged.

Derivatives:

The NSE`s India VIX, a gauge of the market`s expectation of volatility over the near term, slipped 2.50% to 11.08. The Nifty 28 September 2023 futures were trading at 19,586.80, at a premium of 82.05 points as compared with the spot at 19,504.75.

The Nifty option chain for the 28 September 2023 expiry showed maximum Call OI of 30.4 lakh contracts at the 20,000 strike price. Maximum Put OI of 65.6 lakh contracts were seen at 19,000 strike price.

Buzzing Index:

The Nifty IT index advanced 1.42% to 31,961.30. The index jumped 3.86% in five trading sessions.

Persistent Systems (up 3.55%), Wipro (up 2.85%), Tech Mahindra (up 2.03%), Mphasis (up 1.65%) and L&T Technology Services (up 1.08%) were the top gainers.

Among the other gainers were HCL Technologies (up 1.03%), LTIMindtree (up 0.95%), Tata Consultancy Services (up 0.72%), Infosys (up 0.46%) and Coforge (up 0.37%).

Stocks in Spotlight:

Caplin Point declined 1.95%. The pharmaceutical company announced that its subsidiary, Caplin Steriles has received establishment inspection report (EIR) from the US drug regulator for its injectable and ophthalmic manufacturing unit located at Gummidipoondi, Chennai.

Hindalco Industries rallied 2.98% after the company entered into shareholder`s agreement & power purchase agreement with Seven Renewable Power (SRPPL) to acquire 26% stake in SRPPL

GMR Power and Urban Infra hit an upper circuit of 20% after the company`s step down subsidiary, GMR Smart Electricity Distribution has received letter of award (LoA) from Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam to implement smart metering project in Uttar Pradesh.
