Domestic Investors propelled the broader markets in the absence of FIIs flows

ICICIdirect Research 27 Dec 2024 DISCLAIMER

The final quarter of the year witnessed significant volatility in headline indices, driven by heavy selling pressure from FIIs in secondary markets. The headline index corrected nearly 10% from its peak during this period. However, strong liquidity support from domestic investors mitigates the losses. Remarkably, the Nifty managed to end the year with gains of approximately 10%, despite FIIs selling stocks worth nearly ₹1.2 lakh crore in secondary markets.

Notably, the overall net FII inflow for the year remained flat as they compensated for the sell-off by investing nearly ₹1.2 lakh crore in Indian equities through primary markets, including IPO, QIP, and OFS.
