NHPC Ltd., formerly known as National Hydroelectric Power Corporation, is a government-owned hydropower board in India. It was incorporated in 1975 as a private limited company with its headquarters in Faridabad, Haryana. In 1986, it was converted into a public limited company. Its ownership is with the Ministry of Power, Government of India. For the quarter ended June 2022, NHPC Ltd. recorded a total income of Rs 2,990.86 crore, up 47.58% from the previous quarter ended March 2022. On 11 August 2022, the value of the company’s market capitalisation was Rs 34,404 crore. 

The company is listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange with the code 533098, and on the National Stock Exchange with the code NHPC. It is also listed on the MCX Stock Exchange.  

NHPC Ltd. is a hydroelectric power generating company. It has the capabilities to execute all the activities from conceptualisation to commissioning for setting up hydro projects. The company has also expanded to the field of Solar and Wind power. It has an installation base of 7071.21 MW from 24 power stations. During FY 2021-2022, NHPC Power Stations generated a total of 24855 MU. The income from selling power was Rs 8,181 crore with a net profit of Rs 3,538 crore.  

On 30 June 2022, as per the shareholding pattern, promoters had a 70.95% stake, foreign institutional investors had a 6.61% stake, domestic institutional investors had a 14.56% stake, and the public had a 7.88% stake. The entire promoter share belongs to the President of India. The FII holdings increased from 5.70% to 6.61%, while mutual fund holdings decreased from 7.53% to 7.30% during the quarter.  

Mr Abhay Kumar Singh is the company’s chairman and managing director. The other members of the top management comprise Mr Nikhil Kumar Jain, Mr Rajendra Prasad Goyal, Mr Tanmay Kumar, Mr Yamuna Kumar Chaubey, and Mr Biswajit Basu. The company’s auditors are K G Somani & Co LLP, Lodha & Co., Arora Vohra & Co., and DSP & Associates.
