BPCL or Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd was incorporated on 3rd November '1952 under the name of Burmah Shell Refineries Limited, a private limited company. In the Fortune list of 2020, BPCL ranked 309th in the world’s biggest corporations. In 1976, the company was nationalized and later renamed Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd in the year 1977. The promoters of the company currently hold 52.98% of the stake in the company while the Foreign Institutional Investors (FII) and Domestic Institutional Investors (DII) hold 12.63% and 6.92% of the stake, respectively and the balance 27.48%, is owned by others (12.04% by retail investors and 15.44% in Mutual Funds).
In June 2021, quarterly net sales were Rs. 70,921.28 crores, which has increased by approximately 82.86% from Rs. 38,785.05 crores for the April-June 2020 quarter. Net profit in June 2021 was Rs. 1,501.65 crores, which has decreased by 27.67% from a net profit of Rs. 2,076.17 crores in June 2020. In June 2021, operating profit was reported at Rs. 67,033.79 crores, which is up by approximately 86.03% from Rs. 36,034.32 crores for the quarter ending in June 2020. From Rs. 10.56 in June 2020, the EPS of BPCL has reduced to Rs. 7.08 in June 2021. BPCL’s stock closed at Rs. 458.75 on 13th August ‘2021 (NSE) and has returned 10.74% in the last six months and 10.17% last year.
