Bharat Earth Movers Limited or BEML is an Indian company that operates in three segments – Mining and Construction, Defence and Aerospace, and Rail and Metro. The company manufactures and distributes defense and mining equipment, such as high-mobility trucks, aircraft towing tractors, recovery vehicles, pontoon bridge systems, bulldozers, excavators, dump trucks, water sprinklers, steel wagons, etc. The company was incorporated in 1964 and its corporate office in India is located in Bengaluru, Karnataka. As of 14 October 2022, the market capitalisation of the company stood at Rs 6,327 crore.
The company floated its IPO in July 2007 to raise Rs 526.75 crore through the sale of 49 lakh equity shares. The company is listed on both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) as well as the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) under the codes “BEML” and “500048”.
The company is a Schedule “A” company under the Ministry of Defence for supplying defence equipment to the Government. It also supplies rail coaches, metro coaches, overhead equipment cars, and EMUs to various state governments. It has four manufacturing units in India at Bengaluru, Kolar Gold Fields, Mysuru, and Palakkad. For the quarter that ended June 2022, the company reported consolidated sales of Rs 669.18 crore but suffered a net loss of Rs 82.36 crore.
The shareholding pattern of BEML Limited, as of June 2022, reflected a 54.03% stake in the company is held by promoters, a 21.31% stake is held by retail investors and others, a 16.64% stake is invested in mutual funds, a 5.91% stake belonged to Foreign institutional investors, and the remaining 2.11% stake belonged to other domestic institutions. Top mutual funds in which the company has invested include Sundaram Focussed Fund Direct Growth, Kotak Small Cap Fund Direct Growth, Quant Small Cap Fund Direct Growth, and L&T Infrastructure Fund Direct Growth.
