The company was incorporated in 1948 as Ashok Motors, and in 1955, it became Ashok Leyland. The consolidated total income recorded in March 2022 was Rs. 9,957.95 crore. This was higher than the previous quarter by 49.16%. The company has a market capitalisation worth Rs. 38,264 crore as of 20 May, 2022.

Its range of power solution systems includes industrial engines, agricultural engines, marine engines, and diesel generators. It provides buses for school, college, intercity, and city transportation.
