SENSEX DOWN 165 PTS, AUTO SHARES RALLY

The key equity barometers continued to trade with minor cuts in mid-morning trade. The Nifty hovered below the 21,750 mark. Auto shares extended gains for the sixth consecutive trading session.
At 11:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was down 65.13 points or 0.23% to 72,245.25. The Nifty 50 index lost 48.65 points or 0.22% to 21,730.05.
The broader market outperformed the headline indices. The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index added 0.39% and the S&P BSE Small-Cap index gained 0.47%.
The market breadth was positive. On the BSE, 1,949 shares rose and 1,631 shares fell. A total of 165 shares were unchanged.
Buzzing Index:
The Nifty Auto index advanced 1.45% to 18,674.90. The index had rallied 6.57% in six consecutive trading sessions.
Tata Motors (up 5.56%), Samvardhana Motherson International (up 4.15%), Ashok Leyland (up 3.02%), MRF (up 0.86%), Mahindra & Mahindra (up 0.84%), Maruti Suzuki India (up 0.72%), Sona BLW Precision Forgings (up 0.65%), TVS Motor Company (up 0.65%), Balkrishna Industries (up 0.64%) and Eicher Motors (up 0.52%) rallied.
On the other hand, Bharat Forge (down 0.63%), Hero MotoCorp (down 0.44%) and Tube Investments of India (down 0.25%) edged lower.
Stocks in Spotlight:
Kalpataru Projects International (KPIL) surged 9.30% after the company along with its joint ventures (JVs) and international subsidiaries has secured new orders worth Rs 3,244 crore.
India Shelter Finance Corporation rallied 7.39% after the company�s consolidated net profit jumped 67.3% to Rs 60.22 crore in Q2 FY24 as compared with Rs 35.99 crore recorded in Q2 FY23. Total income stood at Rs 210.55 crore in Q2 FY24, registering a growth of 45.9% as against Rs 144.35 crore posted in Q2 FY23.
Global Markets:
Asian stocks traded mixed on the last trading day of 2023, with investors assessing prospects of electric-vehicle companies after China�s Xiaomi unveiled its first EV. Chinese consumer electronics company Xiaomi on Thursday detailed plans to enter China�s oversaturated electric-vehicle market.
US stocks finished marginally higher Thursday, closing in on a new all-time high in the penultimate trading day of what�s been a strong year for stocks.
