Nifty above 21,550; realty shares rally for 5th day

The key equity indices traded with modest gains in mid-afternoon trade. The Nifty traded above the 21,500 level. Realty shares extended gains for the fourth consecutive trading session.

At 14:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was up 357.37 points or 0.50% to 71,694.17. The Nifty 50 index advanced 113.40 points or 0.53% to 21,554.75.

In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index added 0.39% and the S&P BSE Small-Cap index rose 0.12%.

The market breadth was positive. On the BSE, 1,946 shares rose and 1,818 shares fell. A total of 130 shares were unchanged.

buzzing Index:

The Nifty Realty advanced 0.75% to 770.60. The index increased 4.52% in four consecutive trading sessions.

Brigade Enterprises (up 4.27%), Prestige Estates Projects (up 2.11%), Godrej Properties (up 1.35%), Macrotech Developers (up 1.12%) and Oberoi Realty (up 0.97%), DLF (up 0.92%), Sobha (up 0.53%) and Swan Energy (up 0.05%) advanced.

On the other hand, Phoenix Mills (down 3.05%), Mahindra Lifespace Developers (down 0.07%) declined.

Numbers to Track:

The yield on India`s 10-year benchmark federal paper rose 0.14% to 7.193 as compared with previous close 7.183.

In the foreign exchange market, the rupee edged higher against the dollar. The partially convertible rupee was hovering at 83.3375, compared with its close of 83.1900 during the previous trading session.

MCX Gold futures for 5 February 2024 settlement gained 0.49% to Rs 63,331.

The US Dollar index (DXY), which tracks the greenback`s value against a basket of currencies, was up 0.01% to 101.48.

The United States 10-year bond yield declined 0.54% to 3.865.

In the commodities market, Brent crude for February 2024 settlement added 6 cent or 0.07% to $81.13 a barrel.
