News: As per Trai latest data, Reliance Jio lost 12.9 million mobile subscribers in December 2021 while VIL lost 1.6 million subscribers. Bharti Airtel added 0.5 mn subscribers. BSNL, which had not raised its tariff, gained 1.2 mn subscribers. On the wireless broadband (data) subscriber front, Airtel lost 0.8 mn subscribers and VIL lost 0.3 mn subscribers
Views: The subscribers loss is on expected lines owing to SIM consolidation amid tariff hike. The telcos have also indicated that till January, 2022, the subscriber consolidation was seen and is likely to ease out, going ahead
