Tola is a unit of mass used mostly in Asian countries, including India. It is primarily for measuring gold and other precious metals.
History of Tola
The first Indian currency bill issued in the 16th century was roughly equal to one Tola. Later, the British imperialists standardized the silver Tola in exchange for 180 troy grains, establishing its measurement.
How Much Does One Tola of Gold Weigh in Grams?
One Tola is equivalent to 11.66 grams. Historically, tola was used as a standard measurement for gold, and it remains a popular unit in gold trading in India. Even though grams are more commonly used nowadays, tola is still widely referenced in gold transactions, especially in traditional markets.
In some places, the value can vary slightly. As a best practice, when you buy gold or silver by the Tola, always ask the jeweler how many grams are in 1 Tola. You can then split it and compare the price per gram to find a decent offer.
