Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. is the country’s largest electric power transmission utility. It is mainly engaged in the transmission of bulk power in different states of the country. It is owned by the Ministry of Power, Government of India. The company was incorporated in 1989 with its headquarters in Gurgaon. For the quarter ended June 2022, the company’s total income was Rs 11,168.54 crore, up 0.91% from the previous quarter ended March 2022. On 12 August 2022, the company’s market capitalisation stood at Rs 1,59,075 crore.  

The company has been listed since 2007. Its Bombay Stock Exchange’s listing code is 532898, and the National Stock Exchange’s listing code is POWERGRID.  

Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. has been recognised as a Maharatna central public sector enterprise. It is also in the business segment of telecom and consultancy. It is one of the few telecom players with a marked presence in remote areas. During FY 2021-2022, the company recorded a total revenue of Rs 42,697.90 crore, up 4.59% from the previous financial year. 

On Dec 2023, the company’s shareholding pattern indicated a 51.34% promoter stake, 30.51% foreign institutional investor stake, 14.78% domestic institutional investor stake, and 3.36% public stake. The company’s foreign institutional investor stake decreased from 32.01% to 30.51% during the same quarter.  

The company’s chairman and managing director is Mr K Sreekant.
