DPL set up a unit to manufacture micro crystalline cellulose with a capacity of 600 tpa in Gujarat. The import-substitute micro crystalline cellulose (MCC) products, are useful as binding agents. It finds application in tableting, suspensions, emulsions, chromatography, derivatives, ceramics, food, cosmetics and paints, etc. The company sells a major chunk of MCC to the pharmaceutical industry, wherein it is used in the production of tablets. MCC being a technology-intensive project, the company`s ability to scale up its pilot plant to commercial size is the determining factor of its success.
